Dukes Derail Leopards 70-38

Marlington 70, Louisville 38

Lucas Strouble scored a game-high 25 points and had several dunks to lead the Marlington Dukes past the visiting Louisville Leopards 70-38 Friday Night.  Alex Schooley led the Leopards with 12 points and Ronnie Carter added 8 during the loss that dropped Louisville to 3-6, 1-4.

The Dukes held the Leopards to a single point in the first quarter and took a 22-1 advantage to start the game.  The Leopards first score from the field came 11:13 into the contest when Pavin Beatty's Winter HoodiesParks scored on a layup in the second quarter.  The Dukes took a 37-9 lead into the half and built their biggest advantage of the game at the end of the third quarter at 58-16.  Strouble scored 12 of his 25 points in the third period for the Dukes.

Marlington made 30 field goals in the contest, which included 5 three-pointers.  Adam Penird scored 11 and Micah Hall added 9 for Marlington in the onslaught.

On a positive note, Louisville outscored Marlington 22-12 in the final quarter.  Schooley 11 of his 12 points in the period and Carter, Joe Crank, and Parks all hit three-pointers.  Both Parks and Alex Hollifield finished with 5 for Louisville.

The Dukes have taken the last 4 games in the series from the Leopards.  Louisville will look to get back on track Tuesday when they host the West Branch Warriors.

JV: Louisville 51, Marlington 49

The Leopards rallied back from a 12-point second quarter deficit to take down the Dukes 51-49 Friday.  Stephen Kerzan led all scorers with 15 points, while Jake Adams poured in 10 and Drew Noble added 7 for Louisville.

Marlington took a 27-15 advantage with 2:14 left in the first half.  However, a 17-3 Louisville run over the next eight minutes put the Leopards up 32-30 late in the third quarter.

The Leopards would take a 36-34 lead into the final stanza before matching the Dukes 15-15 in the fourth quarter.  The Leopards survived several desperate game-winning attempts by the Dukes in the final seconds to win the contest 51-49.

Marlington out-rebounded Louisville 29-26, but Noble and Austin Shaheen each pulled down 6 boards a piece.  The Dukes were led by Jacob Begue who scored 12.

With the victory the Leopards improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in NBC play.
