The Louisville Leopards Boys Tennis team edged out a 3-2 road victory over the Wadsworth Grizzlies Friday in the first round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches’ Association Team Tournament. With the victory, Louisville improves to 5-1 on the season.
Jake Pukys defeated Adrian Rodriguez 6-1, 7-5 in #1 Singles to lead the Leopards. The Grizzlies won both #2 and #3 singles in straight sets to take a 2-1 lead for the match. Wadsworth winners included Nico Henderson 6-0, 6-0 and Drew Grissom 6-2, 6-2.
Louisville would win both Doubles Matches in three sets to claim the tournament win. Alex Hall & Kyle Robinson rallied back to earn a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory in #1 Doubles. The #2 Doubles Team of Asa Herron & Zach Eddins also dropped their first set but came back to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
This was the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Leopards advance to host another team they have never played, the Madison Blue Streaks, in the second round of the tournament. The OTCA rules require this match to be played by April 22. This was Louisville’s first tournament victory since defeating Cuyahoga Falls 3-2 in 2014.
