Boys Cross Country Overcomes Adversity to Win Malone Invitational

Nick Chaplik Louisville Leopards Boys Cross Country Malone Invitational 2014

Boys – 47 (1st Out of 11)

The Louisville Leopards Boys Cross Country had to overcome adversity Saturday Morning at the Malone Invitational. Two of their Varsity Runners collapsed during the race, yet Louisville still placed 1st overall as a team. They ended up with 47 total places which eclipsed 2nd place GlenOak by 8.

Nick Chaplik placed 2nd individually with a time of 16:35.3 to lead Louisville. Race Champion Kevin Beatty's Sports Long Sleeved Leopard NationWhite of Wooster was the only runner that had a better time (16:24.8). Noah Chaplik also placed 5th (16:49.0), Zach Fresenko 7th (16:54.2), Jacob Milburn 14th (17:29.8), and Christian Hendricks 19th (17:42.4) to round out the scoring for the Leopards.

Top Louisville Runner Ben Tornow had the lead in the race when he collapsed on the course. Tornow did not finish the race and was taken away in an ambulance. He had a very good chance of taking first place individually had this not happened. Also, the Leopards were poised to take 2nd and 3rd place before a trip up going downhill near the finish line.

Even through all this adversity, Louisville showed their depth and a true team effort in capturing the Team Title. Through the first two loops they were blowing away the field. Even their convincing finish 8 places ahead of the next team did not show how truly dominant they were. They will run at Malone again on October 18 looking for their second straight District Title.
