Central Catholic put together a 9-run fifth inning en route to clobbering Louisville 16-7 Monday evening at Louisville High School.  However, the score does not even come close to showing the heart of these Leopards.

The Crusaders had put on a clinic and led 15-3, but Louisville wasn’t about to be run-ruled.  The Leopards responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to keep the game going.  Shawn Adams doubled to left field to bring home Christian Duckworth.  Then Adams scored seconds later on a passed ball cutting the Central lead to 15-5.  Brian Adams then walked and then Connor Ruffier followed with a single.  Ruffier would finish the game going 3-for-4 at the plate and score two runs.

Mike Kelly batted next and singled home Adams.  Jeremy White followed two batters later and singled home Ruffier for the fourth and final run of the inning.  Louisville had cut the deficit to 15-7, but would fail to score again.  However, the Leopards did clamp down on defense to shutout Central in the sixth inning and hold them to a lone run in the seventh.

Louisville did produce three other runs earlier in the game.  Chad Neff hit a pitch to left field and a Crusaders’ error allowed the ball to find grass, and consequently White scored on the play.  In the fourth inning, Kelly singled home Christian Duckworth and Dillon Stertzbach also singled home Ruffier in the inning.  Kelly finished the evening going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Despite the deficit, the Leopards bench remained light-spirited and never stopped believing they could come back.  The Leopards have been outscored 32-9 in their last two games, yet still remain confident going into a league game against West Branch Tuesday at home and hosting Coventry in a Sectional Final on Thursday.
