The Leopards managed just 5 hits in the contest with Tyler Adams lead-off double in the fourth inning as the only extra base-hit. Jake Adams, Dalton Deckerd, Brody Hahn, and Nick Harsh also singled for Louisville.
The Leopards greatest scoring opportunity came in the top of the third inning when they loaded the baes with 2 outs. However, Polar Bears Pitcher Mike Mathieu struck out the next Louisville bater to end the inning.
Mathieu earned the victory on the mound for Jackson after pitching 3 1/3 innings in relief, giving up 0 runs on 1 hit, and striking out 5. Starter Cooper Pastorius pitched the first 2 2/3 innings, gave up 0 runs on 3 hits, and struck out 2. Sam Miller also pitched a scoreless 7th inning and struck out 1.
Jake Pallotta hit a 1-out single to left field to kickstart the Polar Bears in the second inning. Back-to-back bunt singles by Chad Matthus and Trey White loaded the bases for Jackson. Nate Cobb singled to center in the next at-bat to bring home Pallotta for the go-ahead run. Zach Mottice grounded into a fielder’s choice after that to bring in Matthus for the second run.
Jackson would add to their lead in the sixth inning. Jon Conkle led off the frame with a double. He would be replaced by the pinch-running Jack Dear who would score from an error. Another pinch-runner, Mitch Balla, would score via a bases loaded walk.
Isaac Mathie (2-2) pitched a complete game for Louisville giving up just 2 earned runs on 7 hits. The Polar Bears have now defeated the Leopards in their past 8 meetings, which includes the last 6 at Jackson.
