Cantley Hurls Perfect Game as Leopards Slam Aviators 12-0 – Softball
Louisville 12, Alliance 0, 5 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team blanked the visiting Alliance Aviators 12-0 in 5 innings Friday Evening at the Diamond of Dreams. With the win, Louisville remains unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 4-0 against the NBC.
Sarah Cantley threw a 5-inning perfect game and struck out 12 to lead the Lady Leopards. Cantley was so dominate that she needed just 59 pitches to throw her second career no-hitter and first Varsity perfect game. Cantley struck out the side in three innings and everything hit into play failed to leave the infield.
This is the second known perfect game in Louisville Leopards Softball history and ninth known no-hitter in team history. Brittany Flanigan threw a 7-inning perfect game in a 1-0 home victory over the Canton McKinley Bulldogs on April 29, 2009. Kirsten Wharmby and Morgan Harris combined for the last no-hitter in a 9-0 win at Salem last season on April 20, 2017. Cantley also threw a 5-inning no-hitter last season in an 11-0 home win over the Massillon Tigers.
Cantley’s effort in the circle were complimented by an explosive offensive performance by the Lady Leopards. Rylee Squire hit a 2-run homer to center in the bottom of the third. Later Alex Fankhauser smacked a Grand Slam over the left field fence as part of a 5-run fourth inning. Fankhauser was batting as a pinch hitter for Squire in the same sixth spot in the lineup.
Louisville cracked 14 hits as a team led by lead-off hitter Sydney McKeever who batted 3-for-4 with a double. Ellie Jackson and Kaycee Ollis both batted 2-for-3 and recored an RBI, Teagan Rice drove in three runs, and Justina Sirohman whacked a triple in her only at-bat.
