7. Baseball Wins NBC Outright & Sectional Championship

Just like the basketball team, Louisville baseball had quite a ride in 2011. The Leopards scored two in the seventh to earn a 5-4 win at Marlington on April 7, before Dillon Stertzbach and Mike Kelly each hurled complete game shutouts in a sweep of Alliance the following week. Louisville’s season took a dip in May when Hudson and Central trounced them by a combined score of 32-8 in back-to-back games. But the Leopards roared back with a 14-1 mercying against West Branch to clinch a share of the NBC. The first playoff game against Coventry was full of controversy and weather delays, but the Leps rallied with a six-run sixth inning to claim the Sectional Crown. A seventh inning meltdown led to an eleven inning loss against West Branch in the next game, which also seemingly ended the Leopards chances at an unshared NBC Title. A loss to South at Thurman Munson ended the Leps District Title dreams, but the Wildcats beat up on the Aviators to hand the Leopards the NBC Outright Championship soon after. Louisville finished 2011 with a 14-11 record, but they showed up when it counted by finishing 11-3 in conference play to claim their fifth NBC Title.
