Louisville High School Final Scoreboard Louisville Leopards Vs. Perry Panthers 2010

Louisville 50, Perry 44

Despite a slow start, an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter lifted the Lady Leopards over the Perry Panthers 50-44 at Louisville High School Wednesday Night. Brianna Libertore and Alyssa Jones each scored 14 points to help the Lady Leps stay undefeated.

The night’s events began when the CD to play the National Anthem failed and those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance instead.  That was followed up by a two minute scoring drought by the Lady Leps, who spotted Perry a 3-0 lead.   The drought from the field ended when Molly Brown made a put-back lay-up and a 7-0 Leopards run ensued. The run was finished off by Mackenzie Storlie who picked Perry point guard Kaitlyn Bucksar’s pocket and took took it all the way to the hole with an over-the-shoulder, off balanced layup.  The Leopards surrendered the rest of the quarter to the Panthers though and went into the second quarter trailing 14-10.

However, another offensive drought ensued for the Lady Leps, this time it lasted 4:34.  Fittingly, the drought ended on an offensive possession in which the Leopards grabbed three offensive rebounds.  Jones finished the possession off with a lay-in to cut the Leopards deficit to 18-12.

Perry answered with three-pointers from Leah Halkides and Macy Byrd to give them a 25-16 lead, their largest of the contest.  But Louisville answered right back when senior point guard Lauren Bricker swished a three-ball and then later hit a bunny after receiving a nice dish from Storlie.  Although the Lady Leps cut the deficit, they still went into the half trailing 27-21.

However, Louisville’s defense came out of the locker room fired up, holding Perry off the scoreboard for nearly half pof the third quarter.  Offensively, Libertore took over the paint as she scored 7 of her 14 points on the night in the third.  The Leps tied the game back at 29 all, but Perry would not go away.  Shelbi Tilton hit one from beyond the arch and then later scored on a layup to give Perry a 35-30 lead.

But Perry’s lead quickly evaporated as the Leopards scored 11 straight points.  Jones hustled after a loose ball and turned it into two points to give the Lady Leps the momentum headed into the fourth quarter.  Libertore hit a layup to start the period cutting the Perry lead to one.  While Libertore owned the third quarter, it was Jones that owned the fourth quarter.  On the next possession, the Lady Leps defense forced a jump ball allowing them to regain possession.  The two teams then exchanged possessions before Jones tied them game at 35-35 by drawing a foul and then splitting a pair from the charity stride.  The Lady Leps then put on the press forcing a quick pass by Perry back to the inbounding Tilton who’s foot grazed the end line.  Then, Jones was cash from just inside the arch to give the Leopards their first lead since the opening quarter.  A double dribble by Perry gave the ball back to the Leps and into the hands of Jones.  She drew another foul and sunk both her free throws making it 39-35.  A miscommunication on the inbounds by Perry gave the ball back to the Lady Leps.  Jones juked out the Perry defense on the inbound and laid it in with the right hand.  41-35 Lady Leps.

Perry head coach Abbey Allerding had seen enough and called timeout to fire the Panthers back up.  In a spand of 12 seconds Tilton hit a layup and Halkides picked a slipping Storlie’s pocket and took it to the hole to cut the Leopard lead to two.  Coach Garee McCully burned a timeout to refocus the Leps., but Perry still tied the game at 41-41 with a pair of free throws.  Then Jones gave the Leopards the lead back by making one of two free throws.  Again Perry answered with two clutch free throws from Byrd, but Louisville retrieved the lead when Storlie fed the ball to  Jones who withstood contact in the post to lay in the bucket. 44-43 Lady Leps.

Then disaster appeared to be striking Louisville.  On what appeared to be a jump ball, Libertore was called for the personal foul, it was her fifth of the game.  But, even without the presence of their top post player, the Lady Leopards found a way to pull ahead.  After Perry tied the game with another free throw, Storlie answered from downtown to give the Leopards a 47-44 lead.  Storlie then hustled for a rebound on the other end and then drew a foul on offense.  Storlie split the pair of free throws to make it a two possession contest.

Perry traveled on the following possession before Brown took the Panthers to the hole for the final dagger.  The Leopards defense forced a jump ball and the alternate possession went back to the Lady Leps who ran out the rest of the clock.  The Leopards won 50-44.  Louisville moves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 against the Federal League.
