13-Run 1st Inning Propels Lady Leopards to 15-0 Victory at Carrollton

Louisville scored 13 runs in the opening inning before cruising to a 15-0 5 inning victory at Carrollton’s Field of Dreams Tuesday. The Lady Leopards are now 13-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in conference play.

The Lady Leopards pounded out 13 hits in the opening frame and batted through their lineup twice. At one point they strung together 11 straight singles and also had 14 consecutive batters Beatty's Sports Softball Shirt 2013reach base. The 13 runs are the most Louisville has scored in a single inning since the second inning of the home opener against GlenOak last season that matched the mark.

Chandler Rice finished 3-for-4 with a triple, 2 singles, 4 stolen bases, 4 RBI’s, and 2 runs to lead the offense and Katie Cozy also went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs. Nine different Lady Leopards scored in the contest and Shelby Swigert had a team-leading 3 runs scored. Gianna Falcone and Annie Woolf also had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.

In the circle, Falcone retired the first 12 batters she faced before giving a bloop single up to Taylor Lowdermilk in the fifth. A 4-6-3 double play on the next pitch made it 14 up, 14 down for the Senior pitcher. She would go on to allow just 2 hits in picking up her sixth shutout of the season.

With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now defeated the Warriors in 5 straight contests and won 11 of the last 12 in the series overall. The 15-run margin is the most lob-sided win in the series that Louisville now leads 33-17. The Lady Leopards have now won 50 of their last 51 NBC games, with their only loss coming against Carrollton in 2011.
