10th Straight Win Over Minerva Improves Louisville to 10-0 in NBC
Video Highlights
Louisville 7, Minerva 1
After an early Minerva lead, the Lady Leopards scored seven unanswered runs in defeating the visiting Lions 7-1 Thursday. With the victory the Lady Leopards are now 15-2 overall and 10-0 against NBC foes.
Louisville scored 3 runs in both the second and third innings to rip the game open. Brooke Cox and Amy Hoover each had RBI singles to give the Leopards the lead. After that, Hoover stole second and the incoming catcher’s throw ended up in center field. This allowed Cox to walk home making it 3-1 Louisville.
The Lady Leopards doubled their score in the third inning. Jordan Monnot’s bunt single brought home a charging Chandler Rice, the pinch-running Lexi Givens scored on a wild pitch, and Grace Jackson’s sacrifice fly scored Monnot to put the Lady Leps up 6-1.
Louisville’s final run came in the next inning when Annie Woolf drove in Shelby Swigert. The game would remain scoreless the rest of the way in large part do to the effort in the circle by Leopards pitcher Gianna Falcone. Falcone pitched the entire contest giving up just 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 8.
With the victory, Head Coach Chet Givens is now 99-26 (.792) since becoming the Leopards coach in 2009 and a victory over Green Friday would give him his 100th victory. Before Givens took over the Lions defeated the Leopards 4 straight times, since he became head coach Louisville is 10-0 against Minerva. The Lady Leopards also lead the all-time series 34-10.
